How To Wash Your Wig
Washing your wig regularly helps maintain its softness, shine, and natural appearance. Whether it’s curly or straight, proper care ensures longer lifespan and better styling results.
To wash your wig properly:
- Fill a sink or basin with lukewarm water (avoid hot water as it may damage the hair fibers).
- Add a small amount of wig-friendly shampoo or sulfate-free shampoo, then gently submerge the wig.
- Carefully squeeze the wig to allow the shampoo to clean through the strands. Do not rub or twist.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water until all shampoo is removed.
- Gently press out excess water using your hands, then pat dry with a soft towel. Avoid wringing or pulling.
If you are short on time, you can refresh your wig between washes:
Mix clean water with a small amount of conditioner in a spray bottle. Lightly mist the wig to restore moisture and revive curls. This helps the hair regain bounce and reduces dryness, making it look freshly styled again.
How to Do a Deep Conditioning Treatment
Wigs can become tangled due to friction, static, improper storage, or frequent wear. Deep conditioning helps restore smoothness and reduce dryness.
To deeply condition your wig:
- Apply a nourishing treatment such as conditioner mixed with coconut oil or olive oil before and after wearing.
- Avoid excessive use of styling products like hairspray, as this can increase buildup and tangling.
- At least once a week, soak the wig in lukewarm water.
- Apply conditioner generously, focusing on the ends first and then working upward toward the roots.
- Let the wig sit for about 15–20 minutes to absorb nutrients.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, then finish with a cool rinse to help seal the hair cuticle.
- Gently blot excess water with a soft towel and allow the wig to air dry naturally.
